La zona húmeda denominada "Charca de Suárez", está ubicada en el término municipal de Motril, en las proximidades de la playa de Poniente de dicho municipio, en el terreno denominado "Pago de Suárez", de donde recibe su nombre. Dicha superficie ocupa una extensión de 13,50 hectáreas, limitada por urbanizaciones costeras y el polígono industrial de Alborán.

Estos humedales forman parte de un área situada entre Nerja (Málaga) y Adra (Almería), donde la unión de una serie de factores de naturaleza tectónica, litológica, climática y antrópica ha favorecido la aparición de zonas húmedas muy cerca de la costa ligadas exclusivamente a los Deltas de los principales ríos.


La "Charca Suárez" es una superficie de aguas libres perennes, aunque fluctuantes, que se alimenta tanto de las aguas subterráneas procedentes del acuífero de Motril-Salobreña, como de las aportaciones del agua de retorno de los regadíos de la Vega. Esta superficie procede de la transformación del Delta del río Guadalfeo, que debido al aumento de la sedimentación en la zona, produjo un repliegue de la línea de costa dando lugar a la Vega Motril-Salobreña, donde finalmente ante el dominio de la sedimentación fluvial frente a la acción erosiva de las aguas litorales, se creó un sistema fluvial de canales entrelazados, donde los frecuentes cambios de posición del cauce, dieron lugar a la aparición de zonas encharcadas.


Para el seguimiento ornitolimnológico de humedales se han colocado sondas multiparamétricas instaladas en unas boyas estancas, autónomas energéticamente y que conectadas a Internet. Se toman cada 2 horas, 5 medidas ambientales y aéreas (temperatura, presión barométrica, dirección e intensidad del viento y posición GPS) además de 10 variables sumergidas (Temperatura a 4 profundidades, pH, Oxigeno disuelto, Turbidez, conductividad, salinidad, nitratos, clorofila, profundidad por ultrasonidos).


En el marco del proyecto INDALO las sondas aportarán información como laboratorios para valorar los efectos generados por el Cambio Climático.

The wetland area called "Charca de Suárez" is located in the municipality of Motril, near the Poniente beach of said municipality, on the land called "Pago de Suárez", from which it receives its name. This surface occupies an area of ​​13.50 hectares, limited by coastal urbanizations and the Alborán industrial estate.

These wetlands are part of an area located between Nerja (Málaga) and Adra (Almería), where the union of a series of factors of a tectonic, lithological, climatic and anthropic nature has favored the appearance of wetlands very close to the coast linked exclusively to the Deltas of the main rivers.


The "Charca Suárez" is a surface of perennial, although fluctuating, free water that is fed both by groundwater from the Motril-Salobreña aquifer and by contributions from return water from the irrigation of La Vega. This surface comes from the transformation of the Guadalfeo River Delta, which due to the increase in sedimentation in the area, produced a retreat of the coastline giving rise to the Motril-Salobreña Valley, where finally, due to the dominance of fluvial sedimentation against the erosive action of coastal waters, a fluvial system of intertwined channels was created, where the frequent changes in the position of the channel gave rise to the appearance of waterlogged areas.


For limnological monitoring of wetlands, multiparametric probes have been installed on watertight buoys that are energy autonomous and connected to the Internet. Every 2 hours, 5 environmental and aerial measurements are taken (temperature, barometric pressure, wind direction and intensity and GPS position) in addition to 10 submerged variables (Temperature at 4 depths, pH, Dissolved oxygen, Turbidity, conductivity, salinity, nitrates, chlorophyll, ultrasound depth).


Within the framework of the INDALO project, the probes will provide information as laboratories to assess the effects generated by Climate Change.

Monitorización y sistema de alertas en tiempo real para el control de las características fisicoquímicas de la masa de agua de forma continua para complementar el seguimiento de las aves en los humedales.


La necesidad surge cuando se identifica que el seguimiento de humedales sensibles en Andalucía se quedaba incompleto analizando sólo la comunidad de aves, y no integrando las características fisicoquímicas de la masa de agua de forma continua. Se requería tener conocimiento de incidencias puntuales en tiempo real que permitiese a los gestores de los espacios poder actuar (vertidos, cambios bruscos temperatura, etc...).
